Greek Vegans need your help for new Camden bistro!

greekvegEvangelos and a friend from The Vegan Greek are a couple of Greek vegan chefs who plan to open a new restaurant in Covent Garden or the wider Camden area. They will be offering traditional Greek cusine -delicious vegan dishes but your help to suggest an appropriate place!

Requirements: kitchen and buffet plus half a dozen of tables for sitting. If anyone can suggest a place and give an estimation of cost please get in touch with them on their Facebook group.

“Our beliefs about food are tied to personal and social well-being. The Vegan Greek strives to promote the idea that a sustainable, healthy culture depends on humankind living as “lightly” as possible, mitigating the damage wrought on the environment and ourselves. Greeks have been cooking and eating vegan food for thousands of years. This healthy, delicious alternative to soy products and bland veggies will be offered in our new Greek Restaurant!” Evangelos

LMFM Green Groups

Are you part of an environmental group in London?

We would love to see the following environmental groups really embrace greener living by enocuraging their members to try a #LondonMeatFreeMonday.

greenpartyWe believe¬†The Green Party will be even greener if it actively encourages it’s 16,000 members to think about how their diet damanges the planet. Their website search results show¬†Environment ‚Äď 691, but only¬†14 for vegan and¬†20 for vegetarian! The Green Manifesto makes it clear they care, “Human-made climate change is an unprecedentedly serious threat to our welfare.”¬†¬†and they want to ban factory farming &¬†battery eggs. Thanks to¬†Tom Acre at Southwark Greens for letting Thomas Micklewright talk at the meeting on September 4 2013, we look forward to networking with the group in the future – especially about Meat Free Mondays in schools¬†& councils.

FOE logoFriends of the Earth Рall their local branches. We already have links with Southwark Friends of the Earth Рdo you have a branch near you that you could contact? ABC’s of Nutrition

abc 1The ABC’s of Nutrition is¬†aimed at teaching kids the importance of healthy nutrition from a young age. Health enthusiast writer¬†Robert Orchanian, from¬†Yorktown Heights, NY USA, ¬†says the book reflects¬†his family’s lifestyle:¬† “My wife and I have raised 5 healthy kids. Whether it’s yoga, weight training or running, in general, we all exercise regularly and eat right!”

Read the preview here: The ABCs of Nutrition

Bright, clear and easy to read.

The foods that toddlers eat are the foods¬†they will want to eat¬†for the rest of their lives.¬† This is because in the formative years, organs, tissues and nerve cells are programmed in their unique window of time based on the foods eaten –¬†like metabolic programming.¬† Another reason lies in the way childhood memories are formed.¬† Up to the age of about two and a half or three years, children usually do not form conscious memories, but instead are busy using their daily experiences to create the instinctive emotions and likes and dislikes that will become intuitive feelings in the future.

So if a young child learns to enjoy vegetables for dinner every night and fresh fruit for dessert, they incorporate these healthy foods into her developing subconscious blueprint for what a proper meal should be.  Not only does it taste good to them, it feels right too!

Irish Vegans!

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERABronwyn Slater set up the Cork Vegans Group about 2 years ago. The group has been very busy listing all the great vegan places to eat out in Ireland. You can find out more on their facebook page and their facebook group.

Bronwyn says: “I was to set up the group was the fact that I had been vegan for over a year and did not know any other vegans in Cork. The group had a number of meetups at local restaurants which had vegan options on the menu. I’m much more interested in the outreach aspect of veganism – getting the message out to people – so we’ve done a few stalls in the city centre where we handed out leaflets and a couple of vegan bakesales.”

Heading to Ireland? ‚Äď take a look at places you can eat out here. Dublin has 2 vegan restaurants and a few vegetarian. Cork has 1 vegan restaurant and 3 vegetarian.

Dave of Dulwich Books says “Despite all the fantastical advances in technology and our ability to access information, you will never be able equal the pleasure of owning a book, opening it for the first time and getting lost in a great story- which is something that simply can not be replicated on a digital screen. It is not just the experience of reading that is vital, it is the process of walking into a shop and finding a book that will change your life, just like buying your favourite record, it will never shape your life in the way it should if you just click ‚Äėdownload‚Äô”
